leader of the ACTRIS-PL project
The Institute of Geophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IGF PAS) began its operations in 1953 as a continuation of the long-standing tradition of geophysical research in Poland. It plays an important role among the institutions involved in Earth science research worldwide.
The research conducted at the Institute focuses on fundamental issues in the physics of processes taking place on our planet and covers the following areas: seismology, lithospheric research, geophysical imaging, theoretical geophysics, geomagnetism, atmospheric physics, and polar and marine research.
The Institute conducts monitoring of global geophysical fields in the areas of seismology, geomagnetism, and selected elements of atmospheric physics. It manages observatories in Belsk, Świder, Racibórz, Książ, and Hel, as well as permanent seismic stations in Suwałki, Niedzica, Górka Klasztorna, and Kalwaria Pacławska. All these facilities record geophysical phenomena and continuously provide data to international data centers.
IGF PAS actively cooperates with the business sector and with institutions from 26 countries. It participates in over 70 projects, carries out 12 commercial contracts, and is a member of three European Research Infrastructure Consortia (ERIC), including ACTRIS.
As the leader of the ACTRIS-PL project, the Institute of Geophysics PAS is responsible for coordinating activities, developing measurement infrastructure, and integrating Polish research units into the European ACTRIS network (Aerosol, Cloud and Trace Gases Research Infrastructure).
